We are currently seeking a talented Pro Late Model Spotter to join our team. As a spotter, you will play a critical role in helping our drivers navigate the track safely and strategically, ensuring that they maximize their performance during each race.
Job Summary:
The Pro Late Model Spotter is responsible for providing real-time information and guidance to the driver during races. The spotter’s primary role is to assist the driver with awareness of track conditions, traffic, and other competitors while helping the team execute race strategies effectively. This position requires strong communication skills, a thorough understanding of racing dynamics, and the ability to work under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Race Communication: Serve as the primary communication link between the driver and the team. Relay important information such as track conditions, positioning, lap times, and competitors' actions.
- Track Awareness: Continuously monitor the race from an elevated position (usually in the grandstands or a spotter's tower) and provide the driver with updates on traffic, upcoming lap cars, and other racers' movements to help with positioning and strategic decisions.
- Driver Guidance: Offer real-time feedback to the driver regarding their performance, the condition of the car, and the status of other competitors. Help the driver make decisions about passing, defensive driving, and adjusting their race strategy based on changing conditions.
- Safety Monitoring: Ensure the driver is aware of any potential hazards on the track, including accidents, debris, or changes in track conditions. Work with the crew chief and other team members to make quick adjustments to the race strategy if necessary.
- Race Strategy Support: Work with the crew chief and race team to execute race strategies, providing feedback on tire wear, fuel levels, and other performance metrics. Assist in making pit decisions or guiding the driver on how to adjust based on race dynamics.
- Clear and Precise Communication: Maintain clear, calm, and concise communication during high-stress situations, helping the driver stay focused on the race while providing vital information at the right time.
- Post-Race Analysis: After each race, provide feedback and insights regarding race conditions, the driver’s performance, and how the race unfolded. Participate in debriefs to help adjust strategy for future events.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Entry level experience as a spotter, preferably in Pro Late Model, stock car racing, or similar motorsport disciplines. 1-3 years experience spotting for competitive race teams is highly preferred.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in high-pressure situations. Must be able to relay complex information quickly and concisely to the driver.
- In-Depth Knowledge of Racing: Thorough understanding of racing tactics, track dynamics, and vehicle performance. Experience in late model racing or similar categories is ideal.
- Calm Under Pressure: Ability to remain calm and focused during high-stress race situations. Able to make quick decisions and communicate effectively in real-time.
- Attention to Detail: A keen eye for monitoring race dynamics, understanding the nuances of the race, and providing timely, relevant information to the driver.
- Team Player: Ability to work well with the crew chief, drivers, and other team members to implement race strategies and adjust to changing conditions.
- Adaptability: Must be able to adjust communication style to meet the needs of the driver and team during different phases of the race.
- Technology Skills: Familiarity with communication equipment such as two-way radios, race communication systems, and spotting software is preferred.
- Passion for Motorsports: A genuine love for motorsports, particularly late model racing, with a commitment to helping the team succeed.
- Flexibility & Availability: Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and long race days. Travel to race events and availability for race weekend duties is required.
